Press Release: Press Coming together for the environment – Leonardo Royal Hotel Munich supports Plant for the Planet
Munich, November 2010 – With the slogan ‘Planting together for the future’, the Leonardo Royal Hotel Munich is supporting the ‘Plant for the Planet’ social action initiative and will be planting 20 trees on Thursday, 18th November in the hotel grounds in Munich. The hotel will be assisted in this by numerous sponsors from Munich society and the world of business and 10 pupils of the Ernst-Mach-Gymnasium.
“As a pan-European hotel chain, social responsibility is a major issue for us. Especially when this relates to our planet and thus to our children’s future we can’t just bury our heads, but need to get actively involved and, as a company, also set an example,” explains Daniel Roger, GM, Leonardo Hotels Europe. “Every one of us has a responsibility to reduce CO2 emissions. We have decided that in the course of opening the Leonardo Royal Hotel Munich we are going to support the Plant for the Planet initiative and work hand-in-hand with young people to counteract global warming.”
The 4-star superior Leonardo Royal Hotel Munich is due to open in January 2011. It will have 424 bedrooms, including suites, 1,800m² of space for functions, a VIP lounge, a sauna and gym, plus many other top-class facilities. Jan Heringa, the Leonardo Royal Hotel Munich’s general manager, stresses its green credentials: “The hotel is located at the new Olympia Business Park. What’s special about this is that the design concept for the entire area is committed to the environment and the green building idea. It combines all aspects of the natural cycle – from water to plants to wood – to create an aesthetically perfect composition with a high amenity value. For instance, in the airy green space in the centre of the business park, in addition to grass and trees to provide shade, there will also be a twin-channel waterway.”
Apart from this, the hotel’s interior is a visually exciting fusion of purist and tasteful design. It stands out with its ultramodern ambience, cosmopolitan flair and vibrant atmosphere. The hotel’s outstanding features include the uniquely designed lobby concept, with bar, lounge and spacious restaurant, and the modern function facilities spread across over 1,800m² with 7 meeting rooms (29-188m²), a large foyer (350m²) and a ballroom (732m²) with vehicle access, space for up to 700 people and even exhibition vehicles as well.
Plant for the Planet is a German nationwide initiative being run by committed youngsters from various schools and networks. Together they have made it their aim to plant a million trees and thus to help the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) to achieve its target of planting a billion trees worldwide.
