Boutique Berlin bulding begin
Press Release: At last! Building begins on extraordinary
Leonardo Hotels ‘Am Zirkus’ construction project
Berlin, September 2010
- After two years, the time has finally come – Construction of the ten-storey building on Berthold-Brecht-Platz, which will be made completely of glass and metal, has begun. Located directly on the River Spree, adjacent to the ‘Berliner Ensemble’ theatre and just 50 metres from famous Friedrichstraße, a superb new complex is being created, which as well as luxury residential units, office and commercial space, will also house the 4-star
Leonardo Boutique Hotel Berlin
.
Daniel Roger, Managing Director of Leonardo Hotels, is certain this concept will be a great success: “The property is in a fantastic location and the symbiosis of restaurant, residential, business and hotel facilities makes it unique. We’re delighted to be involved in this project.” The complete, stand-alone three-part complex was designed by Berlin architects Eike Becker. The building will consist of ten floors, plus one basement level. From the sixth floor up, each level will be set back in a tiered effect, “which creates the building’s allure,” says Becker. The Leonardo Hotel section is on the north-eastern side of the complex. The hotel is being positioned under the ‘Leonardo Boutique’ brand. Covering a total of 11,200m², it will have 311 bedrooms and suites, a luxurious VIP lounge (150m²) for special events, an elegant health and fitness spa area (150m²) and conference facilities offering 200m² of space.
The project is already a topic of conversation in Berlin – not least due to the building’s spectacular modern façade (see picture) and its historical central location. Eike Becker designed the building as a modern interpretation of architectural history.
Leonardo Hotels is the European division of Fattal Hotels, founded in 1998 by David Fattal. Leonardo Hotels has been active in the German market since 2007 and currently operates over 60 hotels in Germany, Belgium, Switzerland and Israel, with other attractive European sites to be added soon. The company head office is in Berlin.
