Leonardo Hotels expansions

Everything still geared to expansion: Leonardo Hotels begins 2012 with new projects and additional destinations!

Europe, March 2012 – The prestigious Leonardo Hotels chain is creating surprises all over Europe with new hotels and exciting projects. Daniel Roger, Managing Director of Leonardo Hotels Europe, explains: “This year we’re opening the 4-star Leonardo Hotel Vienna in Austria; in the German Saarland region we’ve just signed the management contract for the 4-star Leonardo Hotel Völklingen and in Berlin building work on the new Leonardo Hotel at ‘Am Zirkus’ in the city’s Mitte district is progressing well. 2012 is going to be a year full of surprises. Our guests have everything to look forward to!”

The Leonardo Hotel Vienna enjoys a central location right on Europaplatz, just 100m away from Vienna’s main shopping street, Mariahilfer Straße. After completion of extensive refurbishment, it will have 213 bedrooms, a restaurant with a bar, a VIP lounge as well as 3 meeting rooms of up to 100m². The atmosphere in this first Austrian hotel in the Leonardo chain will be characterised by the world-famous Viennese tradition of charm and merriment, ensuring guests have a relaxing stay. The impressive new generation of Leonardo Hotel bedrooms features high-quality furnishing and a fresh lifestyle design. Standard fittings now include a flat-screen satellite TV with a selection of international channels, high-speed Internet access, air conditioning, mini bar, coffee and tea-making facilities, a safe, telephone and desk. One very special feature of the hotel for business travellers will be a business level covering 2 floors with rooms specifically tailored to the needs of guests travelling on business. In addition, the VIP lounge will offer even more exclusivity: a relaxing atmosphere combined with a comprehensive range of additional services, such as separate check-in, an extended culinary offering and free Internet access will leave nothing to be desired. The hotel’s opening is scheduled for this August.

There is also good reason to look forward to the Leonardo Hotel Völklingen, which is currently under construction. The 4-star hotel – close to the former Völklingen Ironworks (Völklinger Hütte), a UNESCO World Heritage Site – will have 98 bedrooms and be equipped with 3 conference rooms, a well lit restaurant with bar and sun terrace and a modern spa area. Daniel Roger, Managing Director of Leonardo Hotels Europe, says of the project: “Global companies like Saarstahl as well as the Völklingen Ironworks World Heritage Site attract numerous visitors to Völklingen. We therefore firmly believe that the hotel’s going to be a great success – equally serving the needs of business travellers and people on city breaks.” Due to the proximity of the Völklingen Ironworks, leading interior designer Andreas Neudahm was very keen to incorporate elements of the ironworks into the hotel design and combine them with typical design features of the Leonardo Hotel Group. This idea is realised, for example, with a colliery scenario recreated in the rear part of the lobby area and through numerous outsize black and white prints of the Völklingen Ironworks.

Vibrant, creative and modern! That will be the future feel of the new Leonardo Boutique Hotel Berlin, which is set to open in Berlin-Mitte in early 2013. The hotel will be located right beside the River Spree, next to the ‘Berliner Ensemble’ theatre and just a few steps from the Friedrichstraße shopping street. It forms part of a superb new building complex that as well as luxury apartments will also house offices and commercial premises. The building itself will have 10 floors, plus 1 basement level. From the sixth floor up, each level will be set back in a tiered effect – which gives the building its unique appeal. The Leonardo Hotel part will be on the northeast side of the complex. Extending over a total of 11,200m², it will have 310 individually designed bedrooms and suites, a luxurious VIP lounge (150m²) for special events, an elegant health and fitness spa area (150m²) and conference facilities offering 200m² of space. The hotel’s restaurant will be able to seat up to 200 diners.

As well as the new projects there will also be extensive refurbishment work going on again this year in numerous hotels, with planned investments in this area including hotels in Munich, Hamburg, Heidelberg, Ladenburg and Weimar. “We invest in our hotels every year and do not concentrate just on new projects. Customer satisfaction and the fulfilment of our guests’ expectations are our number one aim,” emphasises Daniel Roger, Managing Director of Leonardo Hotels Europe. “We are continuing to pursue our objective of operating up to 100 hotels across all the major cities of Europe by 2015. So there’s going to be plenty more to report!”
