Press Release
TheMarker: David Fattal among the 100 most influential businessmen
Berlin/Tel Aviv, September 2009
– David Fattal, CEO Fattal/Leonardo Hotels, has been selected as one of the 100 most influential businessmen in Israel by the renowned publication, “TheMarker Magazine.” (TheMarker Magazine’s 100 Influential List, September 2009). The Fattal hotel chain started 12 years ago as a management company with one hotel and now operates 31 hotels in Israel and 32 in Western Europe. In total, the hotel chain owns over 60 hotels and more than 12,000 rooms. Background: In August, David Fattal acquired 12 hotels in Israel with over 3,100 beds. This acquisition secured the hotel group’s dominant position as the leading hotel chain in Israel with more than 20% of the market’s entire room capacity. The deal included all Sheraton-branded hotels, as well as three Accor-branded hotels. The cost of the acquisition was around €175 million. The plan is to rebrand the majority of the hotels, including the Golden Tulip hotels which are already in the portfolio, as Leonardo Hotels. Leonardo Hotels is set to become the leading brand in Israel and is continuing to expanding rapidly across Europe.
David Fattal was born in Haifa, in 1957. He started out as a waiter and soon rose to become managing director of Afrika Hotels in Israel. In 1988, Fattal became general manager of King Solomon’s Palace Hotel, Eilat. In 1997, he founded his hotel management business, Fattal Hotels, which has since enjoyed constant growth. Over the last three years Fattal has also been acquiring property abroad. He now owns 32 Leonardo-branded hotels in Germany, Switzerland and Belgium. The Leonardo brand was also recently introduced in Israel. The “flagship” hotel in Israel,
Leonardo Boutique Hotel Tel Aviv
, is a city hotel designed by renowned architect Moshe Kastiel.
